Watching East St. Louis School District 189

Irma Golliday—Candidate East St. Louis School Board—The early years 1999-2003

Irma Golliday has been an East St. Louis School Board member since 1999.

When Golliday was first elected to the Board of Elections, the East St. Louis School district had been placed under the control of the State. . It is important to understand that the one of the firsts acts of the oversight committee was to grab control of the spending in District 189. Whether it was who would be hired or what contracts would/could be signed—-the State was now in control of the money. For Irma Golliday what this meant was that she nor any of the other school board members could reward friends, family or political connections with District 189’s jobs or money. And it stayed that way for Golliday’s entire first term as a school board member. Things changed however, when Golliday was re-elected to the School Board in 2003.
